NABERS measures the energy or water consumption of a hotel on a scale of one to five stars, reflecting the performance of the building relative to the market, from least efficient (one star) to best practice (five stars). Two and a half stars is the current market average.
5 Stars - Best building performance

4 Stars - Strong performance
The building demonstrates excellent energy or water performance due to design and management practices, and high efficiency systems and equipment.
3 Stars - Above average performance
The building is performing better than the current market average. Energy or water efficiency is a priority in this building. There are still opportunities for reducing consumption.
2 Stars - Below average building performance
The building is below current market average performance. There are opportunities that can be implemented to reduce energy or water consumption, operating costs and the burden on our resources.
1 Star - Poor management or systems
The building is consuming a lot of unnecessary energy or water. There are significant opportunities that can be implemented to reduce consumption, operating costs and the burden on our resources.
